Site Map Apollo 16 Mission Commander John W. Young pauses on steps of mission
simulator at the Kennedy Space Center. He is a veteran of both the Gemini
and Apollo programs. Young was Apollo 10 command module pilot, and orbited
the Moon while Astronauts Thomas P. Stafford and Eugene A. Cernan descended
to within 8 1/2 miles of the lunar surface as a dress rehearsal for Apollo 11,
man's first lunar landing.
