Thanks to a suggestion from John Young, the lunar rover's steering device has evolved into the present day controls on motorized wheelchairs. Young and Duke participated in the design of the steering grip. Young pointed out that the pistol grip designed by Boeing would be difficult to use on the moon because of the heavy gloves the astronauts would be wearing; therefore, he suggested a T-handle type of steering device.
