"The Tom, John and Gene Show"

During one of the television transmissions, Stafford announced:

"We thought we'd bring you a little disc jockey work. This is Tom and John on the guitar and the three of us singing."

Stafford then proceeded to play tapes of "Up, Up and Away" and "Fly Me to the Moon."

Mission Control remarked that Stafford's voice sounded like it was changing - Stafford replied that space flight makes your voice "a little higher."

For the first time, the astronauts would be able to make their own sandwiches; the spacecraft's galley was stocked with white and rye bread, and chicken and ham-salad spreads.

Young:
"Whaddya know! We had a real chicken salad sandwich!"
Mission Control:
    How did it taste?
Young:
"Would you believe, like a chicken-salad sandwich? You notice I didn't say a corned beef sandwich. You noticed that, didn't you?"
