The heat in the capsule after splashdown caused both astronauts to remove their spacesuits, and Grissom to finally get seasick. While Young didn't get sick, he later admitted that no one would ever know just how close he came.

After the astronauts had climbed out of the capsule, Young kidded Grissom about being the first to exit (contrary to the old saying about the captain being the last to leave); Grissom's reply:

"I just made you captain as I got out."

"John's [heart] rate, surprisingly, remained in the sixties much of the time and peaked to only 130 during reentry. To John, a naval aviator, space flight was no more stressful than a daytime pass around the carrier."

"It's a wonderful spacecraft, but not much of a boat."
