During one of the Gemini ejection seat tests, the hatch failed to open and the ejection seat went through a 2-inch thick hull - Young commented:

"That's one hell of a headache, but a short one."

"... I blacked out once completely because my seat did not fit right and my back was set at a bad angle. Despite this, the centrifuge was fun."

When Young was asked if he had any qualms about making the flight with Grissom, he replied:

"Are you kidding? I'd have gone with my mother-in-law."
