The Spacelab mission was a joint effort between NASA and the ESA (European Space Agency). The ESA is a consortium of 11 West European nations. Spacelab's purpose was to do scientific research in five categories: life sciences materials science atmospheric physics space plasma physics astronomy The mission included 70 experiments - only one experiment failed to meet its objectives.
